Visa requirements for citizens of Italy are entry restrictions for Italian passport holders set by the authorities of other countries across the world.
These entry restrictions vary depending on the territory of destination, the aim of the visit, and how much time the traveler is planning to spend in the selected country.
According to the Henley Passport Index, the Italian passport is currently ranked as the 4th most powerful in terms of travel freedom, as Italian passport holders can visit around 140 countries around the world without a visa or with visa on arrival.
Italian nationals are usually able to visa-exempt country simply by presenting a valid passport, for purposes of tourism, business or transit, and for short periods of stay that vary between 15 to 180 days.
The visa-free country list for Italians includes all the European states that have signed the Schengen Agreement. citizens from Italy can visit these countries simply by presenting a valid ID Card.
However, some of these territories may require visitors to pre-register for an electronic travel authorization before departure from Italy.
Italian citizens who wish to stay in a visa not required country for a longer period of stay, or for purposes such as to work or study, are required to obtain a visa. Furthermore, a visa is required for some countries regardless of the purpose or expected duration of the trip.
