The government of Iran introduced the eVisa for Iran, an electronic tourist visa, in 2018, with the aim of facilitating entry to the country to foreign citizens for tourism purposes. The simplified online application removes the need to wait for long visa on arrival queues or visit an Iranian embassy to apply for a visa.
An approved online tourist visa for Iran is valid for a single entry to the country and allows the holder an initial stay of 30 days. However, it may also be extended twice once the visitor is in Iran, for a total stay of 90 days.
To apply for a tourist eVisa, applicants can complete the online Iran visa application form in just a few minutes with basic personal, passport, and travel information. They are also required to supply a current email address and pay the Iran eVisa fee in order to submit the application.
Once approved, a copy of the online Iran travel visa is sent to the traveler’s email inbox. They can then present this document alongside their passport to gain entry to Iran at select border checkpoints in the country.
To obtain a visa for purposes other than tourism, such as an Iran business visa or work visa, the traveler will be required to apply for a visa from an Iranian consulate or embassy.
