Benin e-Visa Information

The electronic visa (e-Visa) for Benin authorizes the holder to enter the West African country. This digital visa can be obtained through an online application.

There are 3 types of Benin e-Visa available:

  • Single-entry
  • Multiple-entry (30 days per stay)
  • Multiple-entry (90 days per stay)

The single-entry e-Visa for Benin can only be used once and allows the traveler to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days.

The multiple-entry Benin e-Visa can either allow stays of up to 30 days or up to 90 days, depending on the applicant’s preference. Whichever option is chosen, the holder may make more than one trip to the country during the visa’s period of validity.

When completing the online application, international visitors must select either a Tourism e-Visa, a Business e-Visa, or a Transit e-Visa for Benin, depending on their purpose of travel.

The online Benin visa was introduced in 2018 to simplify the process of applying for authorization for entry and short-term stays.

Foreign nationals who wish to visit the Republic of Benin can now complete and submit a Benin visa application from any location with an internet connection.

For those who plan to move to or work in the country, it is necessary to obtain a Benin embassy visa.

Benin embassies and consulates can also provide assistance and information about visas and visiting the country.

  • valid and up-to-date passport with at least 6 months’ validity and one page for stamping
  • current email address to receive the e-Visa
  • credit or debit card to cover the processing fee

Once the application is submitted, the approved Benin e-Visa will be delivered to the email address provided within a few business days. It is advisable to apply at least a week in advance of the trip to allow sufficient time.

Benin Visa FAQ

  • What is the Benin e-Visa?

The Benin e-Visa is an electronic visa that is obtained online by completing an application form. This digital system was launched in 2018 to streamline the visa application process. For more information about the Benin visa requirements for your nationality, use the visa checker at the top of this page.

  • How long can I stay in Benin with the e-Visa?

With the single-entry Benin e-Visa, visitors can stay in the country for up to 30 days from the date of arrival. Travelers with the multiple-entry e-Visa can either stay in the Republic of Benin for a maximum of either 30 days or 90 days, depending on the option selected.

  • Who can apply for a Benin Tourist e-Visa?

Nationals of most non-African countries who plan to visit Benin for a short stay as a tourist can apply for the Tourist e-Visa. In addition, business travelers can obtain a Business e-Visa for Benin online through the same platform, which permits short stays for that purpose.

  • How can I get a visa for Benin?

International travelers who intend to visit Benin for tourism or business for a short period of time can obtain a visa online. Similarly, individuals who are passing through the country on their way to another destination can apply online for a Benin Transit e-Visa.

Benin online visas permit visitors to stay in the country for a maximum of 30 days for single-entry e-Visas and 90 days for multiple-entry e-Visas.

Foreign nationals who plan to stay in the country in the long term, for example to live and/or work there, must apply for the relevant visa at an embassy of the Republic of Benin.

  • How do I apply for a Benin e-Visa online?

Citizens of countries that require a visa to visit the country must complete a Benin visa application form online. This involves submitting some basic personal details, such as name, date of birth, and nationality, as well as the traveler’s passport information and a contact email address.

The applicant must have a valid passport and method of payment (a credit or debit card) to complete the e-Visa application. The same passport must be used to enter the Republic of Benin and the details must match those on the e-Visa.

  • When should I apply for my Benin e-Visa?

It is highly advisable to apply for a Benin e-Visa at least 7 days prior to traveling to the country. Although the e-Visa may be processed sooner than this, a full week allows time for delays and unforeseen circumstances.

In general, the earlier the application is submitted, the better. However, it is not possible to apply more than 90 days before the trip.

  • How long will my Benin e-Visa take to process?

It typically takes a few business days to process a Benin e-Visa application. The processing time can vary depending on several factors. A high volume of applications can lead to a longer wait. If there are errors or inconsistencies on the application form, this can also cause delays.

For these reasons, it is important to apply at least one week before you plan to depart for Benin and check all your answers thoroughly before submitting the online form.

  • What can I do if I make a mistake in my application for a Benin eVisa?

It is recommended that applicants double-check all the information they have entered in their Benin electronic visa application forms before submitting them and ensure that there are no typos, errors, or inconsistencies.

Mistakes and incorrect data can lead to delays in the processing of the application or even to the Benin e-Visa being denied. If this happens, it will be necessary to start a new application from scratch.

  • Do I need a travel authorization if I am in transit in Benin?

Yes, a Benin Transit e-Visa is required by most foreign nationals to transit through the country. This can be obtained via an online application. Use the visa checker at the top of this page to find out which nationalities require an e-Visa for Benin.

  • Is the Benin e-Visa easy to get?

The electronic visa for Benin is simple to obtain. International travelers must complete a quick online form, filling out basic information such as their name and nationality, as well as their passport details. It takes a matter of minutes to complete.

The entire process is done online, using an encrypted system and secure servers, in order to allow international travelers to apply for the Benin online visa from any location with an internet connection, rather than the lengthy process of going to an embassy.

The approved Benin e-Visa is then delivered to the applicant via email.

  • Under what circumstances would I need to re-apply for an eVisa for Benin?

International travelers may need to re-apply for a Benin visa online in the following situations:

    • They previously had a single-entry e-Visa and already used it to enter Benin, but wish to return.
    • They previously had a multiple-entry Benin e-Visa, but it has expired.
    • Their previous e-Visa is still active, but the passport it is registered to has expired.
    • They made an error on their previous e-Visa application and the visa was denied.
  • Is the Benin online visa valid for multiple entries?

The Benin e-Visa can be valid for multiple entries if this option is selected by the traveler during the online application process.

Applicants must choose between a single-entry 30-day visa, a multiple-entry visa that permits 30 days’ stay per entry, and a multiple-entry visa that permits 90 days’ stay per entry.
