India e-Visa Requirements for Canadian Citizens

The Indian Tourist e-Visa allows citizens of Canada to go on holiday to India. It permits tourism and leisure activities while staying in the country. It does not, however, allow Canadians to perform paid work or business.

The India Tourist e-Visa for Canandians:

• Allows Canadian passport holders to enter India multiple times
• Valid for 365 days from the date of issue
• Permits Canadians to stay for up to 180 days.

Canadians also have the option to obtain a double-entry online tourist visa which permits 2 entries to India and a total stay of up to 30 days.

The Indian Business e-Visa permits nationals of Canada to take business trips to India. It also allows a number of business-related activities, including attending conferences, setting up new ventures in the country, and recruiting staff.

The terms of the India Business e-Visa for Canadians are as follows:

• Authorizes multiple entries to India for Canadian holders
• Valid for 1 year from the date of issue
• Grants citizens of Canada the right to stay in India for up to 180 days.

There are 2 types of Indian Medical e-Visas for Canadians: the e-Medical Patient Visa and the e-Medical Companion of Patient Visa.

The first allows Canadians to travel to India to undergo medical treatment.

The second can be obtained by up to 2 traveling companions. These are usually friends or family members who go with the patient.

India Medical e-Visas for Canadians have the following conditions:

• Canadians may enter India 3 times (the second and third trips should be no more than 60 days after the first)
• Valid for 120 days from the date of issue
• Citizens of Canada may stay for up to 60 days per visit.

Applying for an India e-Visa means filling in an online questionnaire.

Visitors from Canada must provide some basic personal information, including the following:

• Full name
• Date of birth
• Nationality

Canadian applicants must also submit their passport details. This includes the following:

• Passport number
• Date of issue
• Date of expiry

It is also important to provide contact information. In particular, an email address is required. All correspondence, including updates on the progress of the India visa application and a copy of the e-Visa itself will be delivered to the account provided.

Canadian visitors are advised to enter an email address that they use and check regularly.

India’s visa requirements for Canadians state that travelers must provide the following items to complete their online application:

• Canadian passport that will be valid for at least 6 months after arriving in India
• Digital copy (scan) of the bio page of the Canadian passport
• Passport-style photograph of the Canadian applicant
• Method of payment (credit or debit card)
• Email address to receive the India e-Visa

Canadians applying for an India Business e-Visa will also have to supply a business card belonging to the host company in India.

Patients from Canada (or those accompanying them) applying for an Indian Medical e-Visa will have to submit an invitation letter from the hospital or medical center based in India at which the treatment will take place.

Filling in the online application takes a matter of minutes. Canadian citizens can do this very quickly from the comfort of their own homes.

Once the India e-Visa application for nationals of Canada has been submitted, it usually takes 2-4 business days to process.

The Canadian traveler will receive the India online visa at the email address provided in the application.

Canadians are required to print a copy of the e-Visa for India and present it to a border control official when arriving in India.
