Togo e-Visa Now Available Through Online Application

The government of Togo has announced that all travelers who need a visa for the West African country can now obtain an e-Visa for Togo through a simple online application.

The Togolese Republic first announced its intention to digitalize the visa application process in February 2022, and the system was fully implemented just a few months later, in June.

The e-Visa application for Togo is an extension to an existing online service, the Voyage platform, which was launched in August 2020 to register all immigration into and out of the country. All passengers entering and exiting Togo are required to submit a form on Voyage.

However, the new version of Voyage also incorporates an electronic visa application for Togo and manages residence permit requests. It also allows vaccinated visitors to declare their COVID-19 vaccine status and unvaccinated travelers to register to take a PCR test.

“From now on, anyone wishing to enter or leave Togo must” use the online service, said Togo Ministers Yark Damehame and Cina Lawson in a joint statement. The pair are in charge of security and digital transformation for Togo, respectively.

How the Electronic Togo Visa Platform Works

The online Togo immigration platform allows travelers to carry out all immigration functions in one centralized digital space.

The traveler is able to create an individual account with a passport on which they can save personal information such as name, contact details, and passport data. This saves them from having to fill out the information for every trip to and from Togo.

With this account, they can then complete immigration forms, upload health information, and apply for a visa for Togo if required. Users can pay for the Togo visa exclusively online, using either the mobile money payment or a debit or credit card.

This eliminates the need to visit a Togo embassy or consulate to apply for a visa and simplifies and expedites the visa application process for travelers.

Although the platform is only intended for use by air passengers at present, the Togolese authorities have announced that it will also take land and maritime travel into account by the end of 2022.

Togo Online Visa Platform Also Has a Visa Checker Function

Travelers who are unsure if they need a visa for Togo can also check visa requirements for their nationality on the platform.

Nevertheless, there are currently very few nationalities who do not need a visa for Togo, the majority being citizens of other West African countries.

Only citizens of the following countries can visit Togo without a visa:

• Benin
• Burkina Faso
• Cape Verde
• Côte d’Ivoire
• Gambia
• Ghana
• Guinea
• Guinea-Bissau
• Liberia
• Mali
• Niger
• Nigeria
• Romania
• Senegal
• Sierra Leone
• South Africa

All other nationalities need a Togo visa to travel to the African country. Fortunately, the process is now much simpler thanks to the introduction of the Togo e-Visa.
