Visa on Arrival

South Sudanese visa laws state that there is currently only one nationality able to obtain a visa on arrival for South Sudan: citizens of fellow East African Community (EAC) member state Tanzania. This is because Tanzania waives visa restrictions for South Sudan passport holders.

A South Sudanese visa on arrival is a type of travel document issued to citizens of Tanzania by immigration officials at a border entry checkpoint, free of charge.

To obtain a South Sudan visa on arrival, nationals of Tanzania are able to go directly to immigration control after disembarking their transportation. They are then required to wait in a border queue to be issued a visa on arrival.

It should be noted that holders of an identity card issued by the United Nations may be issued a visa on arrival as long as they also present a clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in South Sudan. Diplomatic, official, service, and special passport holders of any nationality are also eligible to obtain a South Sudanese visa on arrival.
