Canada eTA Requirements for Japanese Citizens

The Canadian eTA is a digital visa waiver that was implemented in order to make travel to Canada easier for citizens from certain countries, including Japan.

The eTA for Canada for Japanese citizens  can be used for a variety of different purposes, including tourism, business, and transit.

The process of applying for a Canadian eTA from Japan is very simple and fast – applicants will only need 15 minutes of their time to fill out the online application and pay the processing fee.

Applicants can expect to receive their Canada eTA for Japanese citizens within 24 hours of submitting an application, but in the majority of cases, they are instantly approved.

Before travelers can apply for the Canada eTA, there are a handful of requirements that they must meet.

Canada eTA requirements for Japanese citizens include the following items:

• Japanese passport that is valid and up-to-date
• Valid email address where applicants can receive notifications on the status of their travel authorization
• Form of payment to pay the eTA application fee, such as a credit card or debit card

The process to obtain the Canada eTA for Japanese citizens is quick and should take most applicants about 15 minutes from start to finish.

To apply for the Canadian eTA as a Japanese citizen, travelers must complete a short online application. The form will ask the applicant about their personal information, passport details, and contact information.

The first part asks for the following pieces of information:

• Traveler’s full name (given name and surname)
• Date and country of birth
• Gender
• Marital status
• Contact information (phone number, permanent address, email)
• Passport information (passport number, nationality, date of issue, date of expiration)
• Employment information (occupation, job title, name of company)

The second part of the form will ask applicants a handful of yes/no questions regarding previous trips to Canada, health history, and criminal background.

Some sample questions include:

• When do you plan to travel to Canada?
• Have you ever committed or been convicted of a criminal offense?
• Do you have a serious medical condition for which you are receiving regular treatment?

After the form is filled out, we advise all applicants to go back and double-check the information entered in order to make sure it is correct. Once they are satisfied, the Japanese traveler must pay the eTA processing fee with a valid payment method.

Once the Japanese applicant’s Canada eTA is approved, they will be notified via the email address that they have supplied on the application form.

The eTA is usually approved very quickly, often almost immediately. The vast majority of applications are processed within 24 hours. Occasionally, it may take up to 3 business days to receive the eTA, so it is advisable to apply at least a few working days in advance of the trip.

The authorization is electronically linked to the traveler’s Japanese passport in Canada’s electronic immigration system. Japanese travelers do not need to print out a confirmation of their Canadian eTA (although it is a good idea to do so).

The Canadian eTA has a validity period of 5 years from the date of issue or until the individual’s passport expires (whichever comes first). It is a multiple-entry eTA, which means that the Japanese national is able to travel to Canada as many times as he or she desires as long as it is within the validity period.

Since the Canadian eTA was created for short-term visits, Japanese passport holders who have an eTA are able stay up to 6 months in Canada without a visa.
