When applying for the Canadian eTA, Australian citizens must fill an online application form that will ask for their basic personal information, contact information, and passport details. On the application, applicants from Australia will be asked to provide the following information:
- First and last name
- Gender
- Nationality
- Passport number
- Passport dates of issue and expiry
- Marital status
- Employment history
There will also be a short section asking questions about the traveler’s criminal record (if applicable), health history, previous visits to the country, and upcoming plans in Canada.
Once Australian nationals have completed their Canada eTA application, they should go through and double-check to make sure that all the provided information is accurate and spelled correctly. This is particularly important for the passport details.
Even small errors and inconsistencies can cause delays or even rejections of eTA applications. In this case, the traveler may have to submit a new application.
After the application is ready to be submitted, travelers from Australia will be asked to pay the Canadian eTA application fee. The majority of travelers get their eTA approved within 24 hours, with some receiving it within minutes.
The approved Canadian eTA for Australian citizens is electronically linked to the traveler’s Australian passport and is valid for 5 years or until the passport expires (whichever happens first).
