Kenya eTA
Choose your passport country to check if you qualify for online application with HandyVisas.

What is the Kenya eTA?
The Kenya eTA is an electronic travel authorization, which allows travelers of nearly all nationalities to visit the country.
It replaced the older Kenya eVisa system and all other Kenyan visas for visitors in 2024.
The eTA is now the only entry permit available. There are no Kenya tourist visas — if you want to visit as a tourist, you need the eTA. It’s required by travelers of all ages, including children.
Only travelers who hold passports from Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Uganda, or Tanzania can enter Kenya without a visa or eTA. It’s also not a requirement for Kenyan nationals and residents.

Kenya eTA FAQs
Kenya’s Visa Policies for Foreign Visitors
Travelers from most countries need a travel authorization to enter Kenya. The eTA is the easiest travel permit to acquire. If you’re eligible, make your application online.
Reminder: The eTA is only valid for trips of 90 days for tourism purposes. You can also use it to travel for short-term medical treatment, or business meetings. You can extend your eTA by a further 90 days.
If you need to stay for longer, or are visiting for another purpose, you must apply for a visa at a Kenyan embassy or consulate. Below, you can find some of the most popular types of embassy visa.
-
If you want to live in Kenya for longer than 6 months, you must apply for a work and residence permit.
There are many types available, including permits for specific employment sectors like mining (Class A), agriculture (Class B), and humanitarian work (Class C).
The type of permit you need will depend on your individual circumstances. You can apply for a Class G permit if you want to set up a business in Kenya, or a Class K permit if you have enough financial resources to fund your living costs without working.
To get your work and residence permit, apply through a Kenyan embassy before traveling.
-
Formerly used business and tourist travel visas for Kenya have now been replaced by the eTA. It’s the only travel permit you need for business trips.
The electronic travel authorization allows you to visit for business purposes, including conferences, meetings, and interviews. You’re not allowed to do paid work in Kenya without a work visa.
To get your eTA for business, apply in the usual way by completing the online form. If you’ve been invited to visit Kenya for business, you can submit invitation letters or emails as part of your application.
-
If you’re traveling to Kenya to study a formal course at a recognized institution, you need to apply for a type of visa known as a student’s pass. You must have been accepted at an educational establishment before you apply.
To make your application, you’ll need to provide a police clearance certificate from your home country, along with copies of your passport and color photos. English translations are required for any documents you provide in other languages.
You can apply from abroad through a Kenyan embassy. If you’re already in Kenya, apply through an immigration office.
