Indonesia e-Visa Information
Important: All travelers must complete the electronic Indonesian Customs Declaration (e-CD) digital form before entering the country. More information on how to apply.
The government of Indonesia launched the Indonesian e-Visa in October 2020. It’s an online travel permit designed to streamline the Indonesia visa application process, and remove the need to wait in long lines for the visa on arrival.
With the Indonesian online visa, there’s no need for in-person visits to an embassy or diplomatic mission. The application is 100% online. There are 2 types of online visa available: the Indonesia e-VOA and the Visitor Visa for Indonesia:
- The Indonesia e-VOA allows a stay of up to 30 days and is valid for tourism, business, or transit travel.
- The Indonesia Visitor visa permits a 60-day stay for tourism purposes only.
Both visa types are single-entry permits and valid to enter Indonesia within 90 days of the date of approval.
An approved Indonesia e-VOA or electronic Visitor Visa also functions as a visa for Bali, meaning you can also use it to travel to that Indonesian region, or any other part of the country.
To work or live in Indonesia, you must apply for another type of visa via an embassy or consulate.

Indonesia Visa FAQ
Review the Indonesian Visa Policy
The visa policy of Indonesia determines who may enter the country without a visitor’s visa and which foreign citizens need a visa for Indonesia.
Regardless of whether you need a visa for Indonesia, you must present a passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival to gain entry to Indonesia. However, business travelers from select countries are able to gain entry with a passport with a minimum validity of 3 months.
All visitors must also have a valid flight ticket for return or onward travel. Indonesian immigration authorities may also ask arrivals to present supporting documents such as proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay in Indonesia and a confirmed hotel booking.
At present, only citizens of ASEAN member nations do not need a visa to visit Indonesia for a stay for up to 30 days. A visa-free stay is permitted for a range of purposes including for tourism and cultural activities, a range of business activities, to visit friends or family, or to transit through the country.
Citizens of around 90 countries are able to apply for an Indonesia e-Visa online. If you’re not eligible for the e-Visa you must apply for an embassy visa.
At present, there are no Indonesia visa bans in place for any foreign nationalities.

There is only one nationality who can obtain a visa on arrival for Indonesia — citizens of Libya.
A visa on arrival is a type of visa issued to Libyan passport holders at an Indonesian border checkpoint. You must proceed directly to immigration control upon arrival and wait in a queue to be handed an application. The form asks for some personal information, travel details, and passport data.
Immigration officers will also request some other documentation, such as accommodation or onward flight bookings. The Indonesian visa on arrival fee must also be paid before the application can be submitted for processing.
A visa on arrival for Indonesia is granted for a single entry stay of up to 30 days. It’s also possible to extend your visa validity for an additional 30 days by paying an extra fee.
-
Citizens of countries not eligible for the electronic visa must obtain a visa from the embassy or consulate of Indonesia, regardless of the purpose of the trip and the length of stay.
An approved Indonesian travel visa from an embassy may be granted for a range of purposes, as either a tourist visa, student visa, business visa, work visa, student visa, transit visa, resident visa, or other visa option. It may permit single or multiple entries, and will be valid for a period to suit your reason for travel.
To apply for an Indonesia embassy visa, you’re first required to make a consular appointment at your nearest Indonesian diplomatic government office. This should be arranged well in advance of your intended arrival date in the country to allow for sufficient processing time. It may take several weeks for the visa to be processed and approved.
You’ll be required to bring a completed visa application form to your appointment, alongside a range of supporting documents depending on your visa type. You must also pay a processing fee before the application can be submitted for approval.

Visa exemptions for some transit passengers

This exemption also applies to many other airports in Indonesia for transit passengers with stopovers under 8 hours.
However, if you need to change terminals in Soekarno-Hatta airport, or your flight transits through Ngurah Rai International Airport, a transit visa for Indonesia will be required.
