Egypt e-Visa Application Steps
Frequently Asked Questions about the Egypt e-Visa
Verify the Visa Policy for Egypt
The visa policy of Egypt sets out the requirements for foreign visitors of all nationalities wishing to visit the country.
Most travelers who want to visit Egypt need a visa as well as a valid passport.
To obtain a visa, you have several options:
- Apply online for an electronic visa (e-Visa)
- Apply in person at a diplomatic mission
- Queue for a visa on arrival at the border
The quickest and easiest way to obtain a tourist visa is to apply for an e-Visa online following the steps above. This simplified system allows you to receive a visa for Egypt without going to the embassy.
Travelers from countries not eligible for e-Visa must apply for a visa at an Egyptian consulate or embassy before departure.
-
Citizens of around 80 countries can obtain a visa on arrival at border control in Egypt (see the list below).
A visa on arrival is a single-entry travel document that authorizes a stay of maximum 30 days in Egypt.
To apply for this visa, you usually need to queue at the immigration desk on arrival. After filling in the form with the required information, you must pay the visa fee in cash. Debit or credit cards are not accepted.
You must also have a valid passport with at least 2 blank pages to receive a visa sticker.
If your visa application is refused on arrival in Egypt, you will not be able to enter the country. You will need to purchase a return ticket to your country of origin.
To avoid risking refusal at the border and waiting at immigration, we strongly advise getting a visa for Egypt in advance.

-
Citizens not exempt from visa requirements and not eligible for the e-Visa or visa on arrival must obtain a visa from the Egyptian embassy or consulate in their country of residence. Around 60 nationalities require a consular visa (see list below).
Additionally, whatever your nationality, you must obtain any non-tourist visa (business, work, study, etc.) or long-term visa from a diplomatic mission.
To do this, you need to make an appointment with an Egyptian government consular office. We advise making this appointment well in advance, as visa processing can take up to 2 weeks or more.
All applicants must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Egypt.
You must also complete an application form and provide supporting documents for the reason for your stay (tourism, business, transit, study, employment, or residence).

Some visitors can travel to Egypt without a visa, provided they meet certain criteria. To qualify for exemption, you must present an eligible passport valid for at least 6 months.
Citizens of 9 countries are visa-exempt, provided they meet certain criteria: Bahrain, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macau, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. The authorized stay is generally 90 days, or 14 days for Malaysians.
Most children or spouses of Egyptian citizens are also exempt from visa requirements for Egypt.
If your stay in Egypt lasts less than 48 hours, you won't need a visa. If the stopover lasts for less than 6 hours, you cannot leave the airport. A transit visa is required for layovers of more than 48 hours.
Finally, tourists of certain nationalities staying in Sinai's seaside resorts may be exempt from visa requirements.
Sinai Resort Visa Exemption for Egypt
A visa is not required for travelers from the European Union, the United States and Israel (via the Taba border crossing) who only plan to stay in the resorts located on Egypt’s Sinai peninsula.
Instead of a visa, you will receive a special permit at certain entry points into Egypt. This visa exemption is issued at the airports of Sharm el-Sheikh, Sainte-Catherine or Taba.
It’s valid for travel to any of the following Sinai resorts:
- Sharm El Sheikh
- Dahab
- Nuweiba
- Taba
The Sinai Special Permit allows you to stay for up to 14 days in the peninsula, provided you do not leave your resort during your stay.
For longer stays in Sinai or travel outside the peninsula, you need to apply for an Egypt visa.
