In 2025, the European Union will introduce ETIAS, a new Travel Information and Authorisation System. ETIAS will become a requirement to travel to Slovenia and most European countries. Once available, you will be able to find more information on this website. The European Union official website is european-union.europa.eu, and a specific ETIAS website will soon be launched.

ETIAS for Slovenia Information

Expected to be introduced in 2025, the ETIAS for Slovenia is an electronic visa waiver for Slovenia and the Schengen Area. ETIAS stands for European Travel Information and Authorization System.

The European Commission is implementing the ETIAS visa waiver for Slovenia to improve safety and security for both travelers and Schengen Area countries, by pre-screening all visa-exempt visitors to European borders.

Those who apply for the ETIAS to Slovenia will be able to visit Schengen zone countries for purposes of tourism, business, medical treatment, or transit.

ETIAS Slovenia will be a multiple entry travel authorization and with each entry holders will be able to enter the Schengen Area for a total stay of 90 days within every 180-day period. It will be valid for a total of 3 years, meaning it will not be necessary to apply for an ETIAS to Slovenia before each trip.

The ETIAS for Slovenia is not a visa, but a waiver for citizens of visa-exempt countries. Registering with the online system is a much simpler and faster process than applying for a Slovenia visa.

In order to receive an approved European Visa Waiver for Slovenia via email, eligible citizens will be able to apply via the simple ETIAS application for Slovenia online. Applicants are required to provide personal, passport, and travel information, and answer a few questions related to security matters on the ETIAS Slovenia application form, which only takes a few minutes to complete.

Those who wish to visit the Schengen Area for consecutive periods longer than 90 days should contact a Slovenian Embassy or Consulate for further information.

Who Needs a Visa for Slovenia?

As Slovenia is part of the EU and has signed the Schengen agreement, it shares a visa policy with all of the Schengen countries. At the moment, there are currently a number of foreign citizens able to visit Slovenia and the Schengen zone visa-free for up to 90 days.

However, from 2025, it is expected that these same foreign citizens will be required to obtain an ETIAS Europe visa waiver in order to travel to Slovenia and the Schengen Area for short stays.

The European visa waiver for Slovenia, ETIAS, is a multiple entry travel authorization (not a visa) that permits the holder multiple entries to the Schengen zone during its validity. Holders of an ETIAS Slovenia can spend up to 90 consecutive days with each entry to the Schengen Area, within every 180-day period. It is valid for a total of 3 years from the date of approval.

The Slovenia Europe visa waiver ETIAS permits the holder to travel to Schengen countries for purposes of business, tourism, transit, and medical treatment.

Those who wish to travel to Slovenia for other purposes such as to work or study, as well as foreign citizens not eligible to apply for an ETIAS Slovenia visa waiver, need a visa to visit Slovenia.

An embassy visa for Slovenia is the same as a Schengen visa. In order to apply for a Schengen visa for Slovenia, it is first necessary to make an appointment at the nearest Slovenian diplomatic office.

It is then necessary for applicants to download a copy of the Slovenia Schengen visa application and then print and complete the application form to take along to the visa appointment.

It is also necessary to meet the Schengen visa requirements for supporting documents before attending the appointment. All applicants are required to have a valid passport containing at least 2 blank pages. Other supporting documentation depends on the type of Slovenia Schengen visa the applicant requires and the purpose of the intended stay.

A Schengen visa for Slovenia may be granted as a single, double, or multiple-entry visa depending on the issuing consulate. It normally permits a total consecutive stay of 90 days with each entry, but longer periods of stay may be granted depending on the individual case.
