Visa Requirements for Singapore Citizens

The visa requirements for Singapore citizens are administrative entry restrictions for Singapore passport holders established by the authorities of other countries.

Singapore’s passport is currently ranked 2nd in terms of visa freedom as declared by the Henley Passport Index due to the large number of countries that have visa exemption agreements with Singapore.

In addition to having visa-free access to all ASEAN nations, the Singapore passport is one of four passports that permits entry without the need to obtain a visa or by applying for an electronic authorization to the four largest economies in the world: the People’s Republic of China, India, the European Union, and the United States.

There are currently some 120 countries that permit Singaporeans visa-exempt access for certain purposes and varying short periods depending on the destination.

To cross the borders of most of these territories, it is normally necessary to present a Singaporean passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of arrival. Some countries also require the passport to have between 1 to 2 blank pages to receive entry/exit stamps.

However, there are more than 95 countries that require citizens of Singapore to obtain a visa in advance of travel, either through a government office or through a simple online application. Additionally, 30 countries allow Singaporeans to obtain a visa on arrival.

Nationals of Singapore are permitted short stays in their destination with visas on arrival, electronic visas, or visa-free entry, for purposes of tourism, transit, or business.

To visit these countries for longer stays, citizens of Singapore are usually required to visit an embassy or consulate of the destination to apply for a travel document in person.

List of Visa Countries for Singapore Passport Holders

Nationals of Singapore who wish to visit a destination that is not on the list of visa-exempt countries must obtain a visa before traveling or on arrival.

Visas prior to arrival can either be issued by the nearest embassy or consulate of the destination or through a simple online application. There are also countries that permit Singaporeans to obtain a visa on arrival from a border checkpoint, although this often involves long waiting times in immigration queues.

There are currently more than 120 countries and territories around the world that enforce a visa for citizens of Singapore, and over 95 countries of these require a visa to be obtained before traveling, regardless of the period of stay or the purpose of the visit.

Some visa-not-required countries also oblige Singaporeans to pre-register for an electronic travel authorization online before they can board incoming transportation.

Some countries that offer Singaporean travelers a visa on arrival also offer the option of obtaining an eVisa online. In these cases, it is advisable to apply for an electronic visa, since it eliminates the need to wait in long lines which can form at immigration control.

Electronic Travel Visa Authorization

An electronic travel visa authorization program permits an eVisa or visa waiver to be obtained online and removes the need for travelers from Singapore to go in person to an embassy or present themselves at the border of the destination country to apply for a travel document.

Electronic Travel Visa authorizations for Singaporean passport holders may be issued for either a single entry or multiple entries, most usually for purposes of tourism, business, or to transit to a third destination.

Visa requirements usually state that applicants should hold a Singapore passport with a minimum validity of between 30 and 180 days before arrival, depending on the country of destination.

To apply for an electronic travel visa authorization, Singaporean citizens must complete a simple online pre-registration form with personal data, passport details, and travel information, which can usually be done in just a few minutes.

Once the applicant has filled out the form, they must answer some security questions and pay an eVisa/visa waiver fee before the application can be submitted.

In most cases, an approved electronic travel visa authorization is electronically linked to the Singaporean passport used to complete the online previous visa application form and / or a copy is sent to the email.

An online visa waiver or eVisa for citizens of Singapore permits short stays of between 14 and 90 days, depending on the country.

In the event that Singaporean visitors wish to visit the destination country for another purpose or for longer stays, they must go in person to the nearest embassy or consulate.

Below you can find a complete list of the countries citizens of Singapore can visit by applying for an Electronic Travel Visa Authorization.

ETIAS for citizens of Singapore

At the moment, Singaporeans do not need a visa to travel to any of the European countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement for passport-free travel.

A visa-exempt stay is permitted for trips up to 90 days within the Schengen Area, for purposes of tourism, business, medical treatment, or to transit to an onward destination, if a valid Singaporean passport is presented at Schengen border control.

However, this will change in 2025, when the European Commission introduces the ETIAS electronic travel authorization. Once implemented, this will become a mandatory requirement for all travelers from Singapore to visit any Schengen country for the same period of stay and purposes.

ETIAS for citizens of Singapore will be available through a simple online application, which can be completed in just a few minutes with basic personal, passport, and travel information, such as the Schengen member state of first intended entry.

It will also be necessary to answer a few security questions, and pay an ETIAS processing fee, before the application form can be submitted.

Once approved, an ETIAS for nationals of Singapore is electronically linked to the traveler’s passport and is valid for a total of 3 years to travel to Europe, allowing multiple entries during its validity.

To travel to Schengen zone countries for longer consecutive periods than that permitted with an ETIAS for Europe authorization, it is necessary to apply for a relevant embassy visa.

Visa on Arrival

Visas on arrival are a type of entry document offered to Singaporean citizens by authorities at border checkpoints of different countries around the world.

There are currently over 25 countries and territories around the world that permit travelers from Singapore to obtain a visa on arrival.

Visa on arrival requirements for Singaporean nationals usually state that it is necessary to have a passport with a minimum validity of between 30 and 180 days depending on the issuing country, and in some cases contain between one or two blank pages to receive entry/exit stamps.

The protocol of obtaining this visa type usually requires the traveler to go directly to border control upon arrival, to wait in a queue to receive an application to complete from immigration authorities.

Once travelers from Singapore have filled out the visa on arrival form, it is often necessary to provide additional supporting documentation, for example, an international vaccination certificate.

A visa on arrival fee, usually required in cash and in the local currency, must also usually be paid before the approved document may be issued.
