Visa Requirements for Peruvian Citizens
Visa requirements for citizens of Peru are administrative entry restrictions placed on Peruvian nationals by the authorities of countries and territories around the world. They determine if a traveler from Peru needs a visa to visit their travel destination.
As of 2021, the Henley Passport Index ranked the Peruvian passport 36th in terms of travel freedom among the passports of the world, tied with that of Serbia. Citizens of Peru are currently granted visa-free entry or access with a visa on arrival to roughly 110 countries worldwide.
As Peru is a member of the South American trade bloc Mercosur, Peruvian citizens are permitted entry to any of the Mercosur member states without a visa simply by presenting a valid National ID card at a border checkpoint.
Other visa-free countries require travelers from Peru to present a valid Peruvian passport on arrival to enjoy a visa-exempt stay that varies from 14 up to 180 days depending on the destination.
Over 40 countries across the globe have an Electronic Travel Visa Authorization program for Peruvian passport holders. These simplified online protocols allow visitors from Peru to easily obtain an eVisa or electronic visa waiver for short-term stays without having to endure long immigration queues to apply for a visa on arrival at the border.
Electronic visas and travel authorizations for citizens of Peru are usually available for purposes of tourism, business, or transit in the destination. To visit these countries for other motives, it will be necessary to apply for a visa from an embassy or consulate.
Additionally, an embassy visa for Peruvians is needed to visit around 90 destinations. This is a mandatory requirement regardless of the motive for the trip or the duration of the expected stay.
