At present, the Henley Passport Index ranks the Monégasque passport 15th in terms of travel freedom among the passports of the world, alongside those from Chile and Cyprus. It is also the highest-ranking European passport of any country outside the European Union and EFTA.

This is because nationals of Monaco are permitted visa-exempt or visa on arrival access to up to 125 countries across the world.

Travelers with a passport issued by Monaco are currently permitted visa exemption to approximately 100 countries worldwide, simply by presenting a valid Monégasque passport at a border checkpoint of their destination.

Visitors from Monaco are granted visa-free access to these destinations for stays between 15 days up to 1 year, depending on the country of issue.

Electronic visas and visa waivers for travelers from Monaco usually permit visits for purposes of either tourism, business, or transit, and allow a stay of between 14 days up to 3 months depending on the destination.

Visa on Arrival

A visa on arrival for citizens of Monaco is a type of visa issued at border control checkpoints in around 25 countries across the globe.

Visas on arrival for Monégasque passport holders allow travelers a temporary stay in their destination for periods between 7 days and 3 months and are most often issued for purposes of tourism or business.

To obtain a visa on arrival, travelers from Monaco are required to go directly to a border checkpoint and wait in an immigration line to be given an application form to complete by local authorities.

The individual must then complete the form with a range of passport, personal, and travel destination, and supply the immigration officer with a range of paper supporting documents.

They must also pay a mandatory visa on arrival fee before the visa can be processed and approved. It is normally necessary to provide payment in local cash currency as card reading facilities are often not available at border checkpoints.

As applying for a visa on arrival often involves long waits in an immigration line, we recommended that Monégasque citizens apply for an eVisa if it is available for their destination, as this application method greatly facilitates entry at the border.

A visa is not required for citizens of Monaco to visit up to 100 countries and territories around the world for varying durations from 15 days up to 1 year depending on the destination.

These include all of the member states of the European Schengen Area. As Monaco is a de facto part of the Schengen Agreement, Monégasque nationals are permitted a visa-free stay of up to 90 days within every 180-day period in any Schengen country.

In order to gain entry to any of these countries and territories without a visa, travelers from Monaco are simply required to present a Monégasque passport with a minimum validity of 6 months, containing at least 2 blank pages for entry/exit stamps, upon arrival at immigration control.

Nevertheless, if a traveler from Monaco wishes to visit a visa-exempt country for long-term durations of stay than those permitted visa-free, they will be required to obtain a visa from an embassy of their destination in advance.
