Visa Requirements for Luxembourg Citizens
Visa requirements for citizens of Luxembourg are administrative entry regulations placed on Luxembourgers by the authorities of other countries and territories worldwide.
The Henley Passport Index currently ranks the Luxembourg passport 4th among the passports of the world in terms of travel freedom, tied with those of Finland, Italy, and Spain. This is because Luxembourgish citizens are granted access visa-free or with a visa on arrival to roughly 150 countries around the globe.
To visit the majority of countries that permit visa exemption for short-term stays, Luxembourgers are required to present a valid Luxembourgish passport at a border control checkpoint.
An additional 35 countries have implemented an electronic travel visa authorization program for nationals of Luxembourg. These simplified application protocols allow Luxembourgish passport holders to easily obtain a visa or visa waiver for short-term stays exclusively online. They eliminate the need to wait in long border queues to apply for a visa on arrival or attend an embassy visa interview in person.
To visit these same countries for long-term stays and purposes not permitted with an eVisa or electronic travel authorization, it is necessary to obtain an embassy visa from a diplomatic government office of the destination in Luxembourg. An approved visa from an embassy is required to visit over 70 territories worldwide as a Luxembourgish passport holder, no matter the purpose of the trip or duration of the stay.
