Visa Requirements for Ecuadorian Citizens
Visa requirements for citizens of Ecuador are administrative entry restrictions placed on Ecuadorian nationals by the authorities of other countries and territories around the world.
As of 2021, the Henley Passport Index ranks the Ecuadorian passport 58th in terms of travel freedom among the passports of the world. This is because over 60 countries worldwide grant visa-free access or entry with a visa on arrival to Ecuadorian passport holders.
Travelers from Ecuador are able to gain visa-free entry to the majority of other South American countries without a passport. They are simply required to present a valid Ecuadorian national ID card at a border checkpoint to be granted visa exemption for an unlimited period of stay.
Other visa-exempt countries for nationals of Ecuador require the traveler to present a valid Ecuadorian passport on arrival at immigration control. Visa exemption in these countries is granted for stays between 30 days and 1 year depending on the destination.
Roughly 40 countries worldwide allow Ecuadorians to obtain a visa or visa waiver exclusively online through a simple Electronic Travel Visa Authorization protocol.
Electronic Travel Visa Authorizations for Ecuadorian citizens are granted for short-term stays that vary from 14 up to 120 days depending on the country of issue. They are most often issued for purposes of tourism, business and trade activities, or transit.
To visit these same countries for long-term stays or other purposes such as to undertake employment or enroll as a student, it will be necessary to obtain a visa for nationals of Ecuador from the nearest diplomatic government office of the destination. Additionally, Ecuadorians must apply for an embassy visa to visit up to 140 countries no matter the duration of stay or motive for the trip.
