Visa Requirements for Croatian Citizens
Visa requirements for Croatian citizens are administrative entry restrictions established by the authorities of other countries, and which may vary depending on the purpose of the visit and the duration of stay.
As Croatia is part of Europe and the Schengen Area, there are up to 110 countries that do not require a visa or have freedom of movement for Croatian citizens, ranking it 19th in terms of freedom of travel on the Henley Passport Index.
iI a Croatian citizen wishes to travel to a country in the Schengen Area, they will only need to present a national ID card upon arrival, as Croatians are granted freedom of movement to all Schengen countries.
However, most visa-exempt countries require Croatians to have a valid passport to cross their borders for short stays of between 15 and 180 days, depending on the destination, and for tourism, business or transit purposes.
In the event that Croatian citizens want to travel to a visa-exempt country for another purpose or for a longer period, they should request an appointment at an embassy or consulate of their destination for more information.
There are also up to 115 countries that require Croatians to obtain a visa before traveling, regardless of the purpose of the visit or the period of intended stay. This may be either an embassy visa from a government diplomatic office or obtained through an electronic application online.
An additional 20 countries allow Croatian passport holders to obtain a visa on arrival at border checkpoints, but this often involves having to wait in a long immigration queue.
