Visa Requirements for Bahraini Citizens

Visa requirements for citizens of Bahrain are administrative entry restrictions placed on Bahraini passport holders by the authorities of all other countries around the world.

As these can vary greatly, travelers from Bahrain should check what the visa requirements are for their destination when planning to travel to any country they have not previously visited.

As of writing, the Bahraini passport ranks 63rrd on the Henley Passport Index, just above fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member country Oman. This list ranks global passports in terms of the travel freedom enjoyed by their holders, and Bahrainis are currently able to visit over 65 nations worldwide visa-free or with a visa on arrival.

The countries for which citizens of Bahrain are granted visa exceptions include all of the other GCC member states, as freedom of movement for unlimited periods is permitted between these territories. Over 30 additional countries permit Bahrainis to cross their orders for varying periods of short stay with a valid passport from Bahrain.

Bahraini nationals are also able to obtain an eVisa or electronic travel authorization through a simple online application to travel to around 25 destinations around the world for short-term stays.

These online application programs remove the need to wait in long border queues to get a visa on arrival or visit an embassy in person to submit supporting documents.

To travel to these countries for longer stays, as well as to visit over 150 destinations worldwide for any period of time, it is necessary to apply for an embassy visa for nationals of Bahrain from the nearest relevant diplomatic government office.

There are not currently any countries that impose a visa ban for Bahrainis.

List of Visa Countries for Bahraini Passport Holders

At present, Bahraini passport holders are required to have an approved travel visa for over 200 countries around the globe, no matter the purpose of the visit, or whether they wish to enjoy a short-term or long-term stay.

Of these destinations, up to 25 countries have implemented an Electronic Travel Visa Authorization application for citizens of Bahrain. These simple online processes usually only take a few minutes to complete, and approval is usually granted within just a few business days.

An eVisa or electronic travel authorization for Bahraini nationals is usually granted for short-term stays for purposes of tourism, business, or transit to an onward destination.

To visit these countries for other purposes such as to work or study, or for long-term stays, individuals from Bahrain are required to visit an embassy or consulate of the desired destination in person to submit a visa application alongside the necessary supporting documents.

An embassy visa is also required to travel to around 150 countries across the globe from Bahrain no matter the travel purpose or duration of stay.

As the processing of an embassy or consulate visa can take up to several weeks, travelers from Bahrain are advised to begin the application protocol well in advance of their intended date of arrival in the Arab state.

These different types of visas for Bahrainis are fully outlined below.

Electronic Travel Visa Authorization

Electronic Travel Visa Authorization programs for citizens of Bahrain permit travelers to easily obtain either an eVisa or online visa waiver for approximately 25 destinations in a matter of minutes.

The stay permitted with an electronic travel Visa Authorization for Bahraini passport holders varies from 16 days up to 120 days and may be issued for either a single entry or multiple entries depending on the country of issue.

They are most often issued for purposes of tourism, transit, and to conduct business, as well as for medical treatment in some cases.

To apply for an online visa waiver or eVisa, Bahraini travelers are able to fill in a simple electronic form with basic data concerning personal, passport, and travel plan details, which can usually be done incredibly quickly.

Once approved, an eVisa or online authorization is usually electronically linked to the traveler’s Bahraini passport or sent to the applicant by email so that a copy can be printed to present alongside their passport when arriving at immigration in their destination.

This type of application protocol is usually considered the most efficient way to get a visa for nationals of Bahrain, as it removes the need to apply for an embassy visa in person or wait in long immigration lines to submit a visa on arrival application.

Visa on Arrival

Approximately 30 countries worldwide permit Bahrainis to submit a visa on arrival application to gain entry to their territory.

A visa on arrival for citizens of Bahrain is a type of travel document that can be obtained by waiting in an immigration queue to submit an application at border checkpoints of the destination.

This type of visa permits a stay of between 7 and 120 days depending on the issuing country and is most usually issued to Bahrainis for tourism or business and trade purposes.

Nevertheless, the protocol of obtaining a visa on arrival for Bahrainis usually involves long waits in border queues and the need for the traveler to carry a range of supporting documentation to present to immigration authorities.

It is usually also necessary to pay the mandatory visa on arrival fee in local currency and in cash, as card payments are not accepted at many border checkpoints.

For these reasons, Bahraini citizens are advised to apply for an eVisa in advance for these destinations if the option is available for their nationality, as an electronic visa usually greatly expedites entry at border control.

Visa Not Required

A visa is not required for Bahrainis to visit up to 40 countries across the globe, including all of the other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates).

Bahraini nationals are granted unlimited freedom of movement to these Arab states in the Persian Gulf simply by presenting a valid national ID card at border control checkpoints.

Additionally, citizens of Bahrain can visit roughly 20 other countries visa-free for stays between 21 days up to 1 year, as long as they present a valid Bahraini passport to immigration authorities upon arrival. Bahrainis can usually visit these destinations without a visa for purposes of tourism, business, or transit.

The minimum passport validity required for these visa-exempt destinations differs, but the passport must usually be valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival in the country. In some cases, it must only be valid for 3 months or for the length of the intended stay.

In order to visit visa not required countries for longer periods of stay, or for purposes such as to undertake employment or study, Bahraini citizens are required to apply for an embassy or consulate visa for their destination.
