Visa Policy for Zimbabwe

The visa policy of Zimbabwe determines which counties do not need a visa for Zimbabwe and who may enter the Southern African Republic with an approved visa.

At present, roughly 40 nationalities may enter Zimbabwe visa-free for stays up to 90 days simply by presenting a valid passport upon arrival at border checkpoints of the country. The majority of these visa-exempt citizens are passport holders of other Southern and Central African countries.

All other foreign citizens, over 200 nationalities worldwide, need one of the different visa types for Zimbabwe no matter the duration of expected stay or intended purpose of travel.

Of these nationalities, up to 55 are able to obtain an eVisa for Zimbabwe through a simple application form which only takes minutes to complete, to receive an approved electronic visa sent via email.

This online program is considered the most efficient way to apply for a travel visa for Zimbabwe and eliminates the need to wait in long border queues to obtain a Zimbabwe visa on arrival or submit an embassy visa application in person.

An approved online Zimbabwe visitors visa may be issued as an eVisa for either tourism, business, or transit purposes and permits varying short stays in the Republic depending on the type of visa selected.

To visit the country for longer stays and other purposes such as to work or study, it is necessary for eVisa eligible citizens to apply for a Zimbabwe visa from an embassy. Additionally, over 45 nationalities must apply for an embassy visa from a diplomatic government office regardless of their intended period of stay or travel purpose.

At present, there are not currently any Zimbabwe visa bans in place against any foreign nationals.

Tourist Visa Policy for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe rules and regulations regarding tourism state that passport holders from over 200 countries worldwide must have an approved tourist visa to enter Zimbabwe.

Depending on nationality, this may be an online tourist visa, a tourist visa on arrival, or a visa for tourism obtained from an embassy or consulate of Zimbabwe.

Of these options, the tourist eVisa for Zimbabwe is the most convenient, as it is issued exclusively online and removes the need for long waits in visa on arrival queues at the Zimbabwean border or the need for in-person visits at a government office.

An approved online Zimbabwe visa for tourism permits a total stay of 3 months in the country, and may also be extended for an additional period of validity once inside the country.

Those not eligible to obtain an eVisa or visa on arrival for tourism must apply for a Zimbabwe tourist visa from the nearest embassy or consulate of the Southern African Republic. A tourist embassy visa application must be submitted well in advance of the intended arrival date to allow for sufficient time for processing and approval.

Zimbabwe immigration policy identifies more than 50 nationalities who may obtain a Zimbabwe visa online through an expedited application process.

The Zimbabwe eVisa program was implemented by the Zimbabwean government to facilitate the process of obtaining a travel permit for the country for short stays and remove the need for long waits in immigration lines to submit a visa on arrival application.

An eVisa for Zimbabwe may be issued as a tourist visa for leisure, sightseeing, or visiting family or friends, which permits a stay of 3 months, a transit visa to travel through Zimbabwe to an onward destination, or a visa for business activities such as to sign contracts or to attend conferences, which allows a total stay of 30 days in the Republic.

All of the different types of eVisa for Zimbabwe are valid to enter the country for 3 months from the date of issue and may be issued as either a single entry visa or multiple entry visa depending on the needs of the traveler.

To apply for a Zimbabwe visa online, it is simply necessary to fill in a simple online form which only takes a few minutes to complete, and upload a few supporting documents which vary depending on the purpose of travel.

After paying the eVisa fee and submitting the application, the applicant receives their approved online visa sent by email and can then print a copy to present to immigration authorities in Zimbabwe alongside their passport.

Zimbabwe Visa on Arrival

A Zimbabwe visa on arrival is a type of visa that may be obtained at Zimbabwean border checkpoints and allows short stays in the Republic for tourism or business purposes.

The total stay permitted with a Zimbabwe tourist visa on arrival is 3 months from entry, while the option for business visitors permits a stay of up to 30 days.

The protocol of obtaining this visa option requires eligible individuals to go directly to an immigration checkpoint at the border of Zimbabwe and wait in a queue to be given a visa on arrival application to complete.

This form must be completed with a range of passport information, personal details, and travel plans, and the traveler is also required to supply a range of paper documents in support of their application.

Additionally, they must also pay a mandatory visa on arrival fee before the application request can be accepted and processed.

KAZA Visa for Zimbabwe and Zambia

In November 2014, the governments of Zimbabwe and Zambia collaborated to introduce a combined visa for the 2 countries named the KAZA visa.

This type of visa on arrival was introduced to strengthen regional economic development as well as to facilitate the movement of tourists who wish to travel between Zambia and Zimbabwe.

KAZA stands for the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, a conservation area centered around the Caprivi-Chobe-Victoria Falls region which spans 5 countries in southern Africa, including those in the pilot KAZA visa program, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The KAZA visa on arrival is valid for multiple entries for a combined stay of 30 days within a total validity period of 12 months.

It allows the holder to visit both Zambia and Zimbabwe within its validity, and also permits day trips to Chobe National Park in Botswana if crossing the border at the Kazungula checkpoint.

The KAZA UNIVISA may be issued at several border checkpoints in Zimbabwe including at Victoria Falls and Harare International Airports.

Zimbabwe Embassy or Consular Visa Required

Zimbabwe immigration requirements identify approximately 45 countries whose citizens need an approved visa from an embassy or consulate of Zimbabwe before they are permitted to visit the Republic, no matter the duration of stay or the motive for traveling.

A consular or embassy visa for Zimbabwe may be issued for a variety of different periods of stay and as either a single entry or multiple entry document depending on nationality and their purpose of travel.

To apply for a Zimbabwe embassy visa, the individual is first required to make an appointment at the nearest diplomatic government office and to complete a consular visa application form.

On this form, it is necessary to indicate the visa option the traveler requires, whether a tourist visa, business visa, transit visa, student visa, work visa, resident visa, or another visa type.

It is then necessary to bring this form to the embassy appointment alongside a range of varying supporting documents depending on the type of visa the applicant selects.

As it may take several weeks for a Zimbabwe consular visa to be approved, applicants are advised to begin the application process well in advance of their travel dates to ensure sufficient processing time.

Visa Not Required for Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe visa laws state that there currently around 40 nationalities for which a Zimbabwe visa is not required for stays of up to 3 months.

The majority of visa-exempt citizens for Zimbabwe come from other countries in South and Central Africa, although passport holders from some Southeast Asian nations and Caribbean islands are also permitted visa-free access.

To gain access to Zimbabwe without a visa, these citizens are simply required to present a valid passport upon arrival at border control checkpoints.

Visa exemption for Zimbabwe is usually granted for purposes of either tourism or business activities.

Nationals of most countries are also permitted to pass through Zimbabwe without a transit visa, as long as they remain within an International Airport and do not stay for more than 6 hours on the same calendar day. However, Pakistani and Bangladeshi passport holders are required to have a Zimbabwe transit visa no matter the intended transit time.

To stay in Zimbabwe for periods longer than 3 months or visit for purposes such as to study or work visa-exempt nationals are required to apply for visa authorization from a Zimbabwean embassy or consulate.
