Visa Policy for Tunisia

On this page you will be able to find a complete explanation of the visa policy of Tunisia, which outlines the requirements that all foreign nationals need to meet to be able to travel to the country.

The visa requirements established for foreign travelers depend on nationality, as well as the length of the visit and the purpose of the stay.

Tunisian visa policy currently states that there are around 100 nationalities which can travel to the country without a visa, if they are planning to spend short periods of time in the country for tourism purposes.

However, all other foreign nationals need a visa for Tunisia in order to travel to the country, no matter the purpose or length of the intended visit.

A visa on arrival for Tunisia, valid for a single entry stay of up to 15 days, is only available for travelers who hold a valid residence permit issued by a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member state.

All other passport holders are required to apply for an embassy visa from the nearest Tunisian government diplomatic office well in advance of their intended date of arrival.

This embassy visa requirement also applies to visa-exempt nationals who are planning a longer stay in Tunisia than allowed without a visa or who wish to visit for purposes other than tourism, such as to work, study, or become a resident.

However, the process of obtaining a Tunisia visa is expected to become easier for a number of foreign citizens in the near future, as the government of Tunisia has announced the upcoming implementation of an online visa application form.

The Tunsia eVisa application will allow select nationalities to obtain an electronic tourist visa by completing a simple online form, eliminating the need to apply in person from an embassy or consulate.

Check the boxes below to find out more information about your visa requirements for your nationality.

Tourist Visa Policy for Tunisia

At the moment, Tunisian tourist visa rules and regulations establish that the majority of foreign nationals need to obtain a consular visa to travel to, enter, and remain in the state.

Citizens of around 150 countries across the world are required to obtain an embassy visa if they are planning to travel to Tunisia for tourism.

This type of tourist visa must be applied for at the nearest Tunisian diplomatic government office well in advance of the expected date of arrival in the country.

This will change when the government of Tunisia implements a tourist eVisa for the country in the coming months. This will greatly facilitate the process of obtaining a Tunisian visa for tourism purposes for eligible nationalities through an online application form.

As the application can be completed exclusively online in just a few minutes to receive an approved tourist visa for Tunisia sent by email, the eVisa system will remove the need to travel to an embassy in person.

See below for more information about Tunisian visa requirements for tourists from all around the world.

Tunisia eVisa

The Tunisia eVisa is an online or electronic visa due to be introduced by the Tunisian government in the coming months. This visa online application will eliminate the need to obtain the visa from a Tunisian embassy or consulate and greatly facilitate entry into the country.

The eVisa will be available for a number of eligible nationalities and will allow travelers to visit Tunisia for short stays and for purposes of tourism or medical treatment.

Those eligible for the eVisa for Tunisia will be required to fill in an online application with personal, passport, and travel information, as well as to answer some security-related questions. This form can be easily completed in a few minutes.

Finally, the applicant will need to pay an eVisa fee using a valid credit or debit card. Once the electronic visa is approved, it will be sent to the applicant’s email address, which they must provide while completing the online form.

The holder will then be able to present a printed copy of the approved Tunisia visa online, alongside the same passport used to complete the form, to gain entry at the country’s border checkpoints.

Those planning to travel to the country in the near future are advised to periodically check this page for further updates about the details and launch date of the Tunisia electronic visa, as they will be published here once made available.

Embassy or Consular Visa Required

The current Tunisian visa policy states that citizens from around 150 countries are required to obtain an approved embassy visa before their departure for Tunisia.

Residents of those countries need to apply for this visa requirement through a Tunisian diplomatic mission, despite the aim of the visit or the length of intended stay.

The protocol to obtain a consular visa first involves scheduling a visa appointment at the nearest embassy or consulate of Tunisia to the traveler. Once confirmed, applicants need to print and complete a application form to bring to the consular interview.

In this application form, visitors will need to select the correct type of visa they need depending on the purpose of travel, whether a tourist visa, business visa, work visa, student visa, resident visa, or other visa option.

Varying supporting documentation will also be requested depending on the visa type. Travelers are also requested to pay an embassy visa fee before the application may be approved.

Additionally, the applicant’s passport must be valid for at least the duration of the stay, as well as contain between one and two blank pages, to receive an approved consulate visa.

Eligible travelers are advised to apply well before the intended date of arrival in Tunisia as it may take up to 2 weeks to correctly process an approved embassy visa.
