Visa Policy for Moldova

The visa policy of Moldova is the list of rules and regulations that determine which foreign travelers need a visa or travel authorization to enter the country and which type is required in different circumstances.

There are a number of different types of visa for Moldova. These vary in the length of time they allow the foreign national to stay, the activities they permit, and the method of application.

Moldova has an electronic visa (eVisa) system that allows travelers to apply for their short-stay entry permit online. The country’s visa policy outlines which nationalities may apply for an eVisa.

The online system makes the application process easy and straightforward. It is widely considered the most convenient visa option for Moldova, avoiding any unnecessary trips to an embassy.

All foreign nationals who plan to move to Moldova, perform employed work in the country, or stay for longer periods than that allowed with the eVisa must instead obtain the relevant type of visa by applying at a Moldovan embassy or consulate.

According to the Moldovan immigration policy, it is first necessary to apply for a long-term “D” Visa from an embassy and then submit an application for a residence permit.

Nationals of certain countries are required to apply for a short-stay Moldova visa at an embassy or consulate, submitting their application and supporting documents in person.

Conversely, a number of nationalities are exempt from visa requirements entirely for short-term visits to Moldova for purposes such as tourism, leisure, and business. However, a visa is still usually required for long-term stays.

Find below a full guide to the Moldova visa policy and discover which visas are required by travelers from different parts of the world.

Tourist Visa Policy for Moldova

The Moldovan eVisa is an online tourist visa that can be obtained by filling out a quick application form via the internet. The approved visa is then delivered to the email address provided.

Not all travelers are eligible for the eVisa for Moldova. Those that cannot apply online must go to a diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate) in person to acquire a tourist visa.

Tourist visas are a sub-type of Moldovan short-stay “C” Visas, which permit a maximum stay of 90 days within any 180-day period.

The Moldovan tourist visa policy dictates that a tourist visa can only be used for holidays, leisure, and visiting friends and relations. It may not be used for business trips or other non-touristic purposes.

If a visa is required for purposes other than tourism, this must be stated when applying for the “C” Visa.

Nationals of various countries do not need a tourist visa to visit the country, as they are granted visa exemption for short stays by the Moldovan visa policy.

Moldova has embassies and consulates around the world. Embassies are usually located in foreign capitals, while consulates can be found in certain other major cities.

Various types of Moldova visa can be obtained from an embassy.

According to Moldova’s visa policy, around 50 nationalities are required to apply for a visa at an embassy for any type or length of visit. This includes short stays for tourism and leisure.

In addition, all foreign travelers who plan to relocate to Moldova and live and work in the country must apply for the relevant visa at an embassy or consulate. The same applies to individuals who plan to perform other activities that are not permitted under the terms of an eVisa.

The Type “A” Moldova Visa is an airport transit visa, which allows the holder to change flights at Moldovan airports, providing they do not leave the international zone of the building.

Type “B” Visas are also transit visas, which permit the holder to leave the airport between flights and stay on Moldovan soil for up to 5 days. “B” Visas can be used multiple times.

Type “C” Visas are valid for short stays in Moldova, with a maximum of 90 days within a 180-day period.

It is only necessary to apply for a “C” visa at an embassy if it is not possible to apply online, which is much quicker and easier.

Type “D” Visas for Moldova are long-term visas valid for up to one (1) year. The holder may work, study, conduct business, engage in entrepreneurship, and receive medical treatment, among other activities.

Foreign nationals with a “D” Visa can also apply for residence in Moldova.

Applications for Moldova embassy visas can take much longer to process than their online counterparts, so it is advisable to apply in good time before the trip.
