Embassy or Consular Visa Required for Madagascar

An embassy or consular visa for Madagascar is any type of visa issued by a Malagasy overseas diplomatic mission.

Nationals of just one (1) country are required to apply for short-term visit visas, such as Madagascar tourist visas, business visas, and transit visas, at an embassy.

Additionally, all other types of Madagascar visa must be applied for at a diplomatic mission, regardless of the individual’s citizenship.

For example, foreign nationals who plan to live and work in Madagascar must obtain an immigrant visa and work visa at an embassy.

Madagascar has diplomatic missions in various countries around the world. Malagasy embassies are found in capital cities in various countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. The country also has consulate-generals in certain other major cities.

Travelers who reside in countries without diplomatic representation from Madagascar must go to the nearest country that has an embassy or consulate in order to apply for a visa.

Applying for a Madagascar embassy or consular visa involves going to the mission in person. There, the traveler must complete and submit their visa application. They must bring all the necessary supporting documentation with them.

Embassies and consulates typically take much longer to process visa applications than the online system. Travelers applying through a diplomatic mission are advised to submit their request with plenty of time before their trip as it may take several weeks.

Admission to Madagascar Refused

Madagascar reserves the right to prohibit entry to citizens of countries that it does not recognize or with which it does not have diplomatic relations.

At present, nationals of one (1) partially recognized state are not allowed to enter Madagascar and cannot apply for a visa.

Citizens of Palestine cannot use the online eVisa system or obtain a visa from an embassy or consulate.

Although the Malagasy visa policy bans Palestinians from applying at present, this will not necessarily be the case forever.

Madagascar updates its visa policy periodically depending on changes in international relations.

It may be that passengers with a Palestinian passport will be allowed to enter Madagascar in the future.

See below the list of countries whose citizens are currently banned from entering Madagascar.
