Visa Policy for Liechtenstein

The visa policy of Liechtenstein is a set of entry regulations established for foreign citizens who intend to travel to the country. The requirements are determined depending on the traveler’s nationality, the purpose of travel, and the date of intended stay.

As Liechtenstein has signed the Schengen Agreement for passport-free travel alongside 25 other European countries, it shares the common Schengen Area visa policy.

Therefore, all citizens of Schengen member states do not need a visa for Liechtenstein are permitted unlimited freedom of movement if they simply present a valid national ID card at ports of entry.

All other visa-exempt nationalities for Liechtenstein are currently granted a total stay of up to 90 days in the country if they present a valid passport upon arrival at border control.

However, from 2023, these same nationalities will be required to meet an additional requirement to visit Liechtenstein and any other Schengen country for the same period of stay: the ETIAS online visa waiver.

This electronic travel authorization is being implemented to pre-screen visa-free travelers to Liechtenstein and Schengen zone and will be available through a simple online application.

Once approved, an ETIAS visa waiver is electronically linked to the applicant’s passport and allows multiple entries to Liechtenstein during its validity.

All other nationalities need a Schengen visa for Liechtenstein no matter the purpose and length of stay, and are required to apply for this travel document from the nearest government diplomatic office of Liechtenstein well in advance of travel.

Tourist Visa Policy for Liechtenstein

Visitors of every nationality should check Liechtenstein’s tourist visa policy before traveling to see whether or not they require travel authorization.

The tourist visa policy of Liechtenstein currently allows entry to citizens of more than 90 countries without a visa or travel permit.

Residents of European countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement can travel to Liechtenstein visa-free indefinitely if they hold a Schengen citizen identity card.

Other visa-free countries can visit Liechtenstein for a maximum stay of 90 days for tourism if they present a valid passport upon arrival at immigration control.

However, these citizens will be required to meet an additional mandatory requirement to visit Liechtenstein for tourism by November of 2023: obtaining an ETIAS travel authorization.

This multiple-entry online visa waiver will be available through a simple electronic application form that eligible individuals need to fill out.

Once approved, ETIAS will allow multiple short stays for tourism in Liechtenstein and the Schengen Area during its validity.

Visitors from an additional 150 countries need to apply for an embassy visa for tourism before traveling. This application needs to be submitted in person at the nearest government diplomatic mission of Liechtenstein before the expected departure date.

ETIAS allows the holder to visit Liechtenstein and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days with each entry, for purposes of tourism, business, transit, or medical treatment.

Once approved, a Liechtenstein EITAS is electronically linked to the traveler’s visa and valid for 3 years from the date of issue, or until the associated passport expires, whichever comes first.

To meet the ETIAS requirements for Liechtenstein travelers need a passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of arrival, a valid email address to receive a copy of the approved ETIAS, and a debit or credit card to pay the application fee.
