Entering Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are disputed territories in the Caucasus and are considered to be Russian occupied territories by Georgia and a large part of the international community.

Because of this, there are some restrictions in place for traveling to these regions from Georgia.

Current rules and regulations state that entry to Abkhazia and South Ossetia from Georgia is an act punishable under Georgian law, except through border checkpoints located in either the Zugdidi or Gori Municipalities. Nevertheless, entering South Ossetia from territories controlled by the Georgian government is currently impossible.
