In 2018, the Government of the Kingdom of Thailand introduced a new electronic visa system for foreign nationals from certain countries arriving in Thailand to expedite entry to the country.

If you are an Indian passport holder planning to travel to Thailand you are required to have an online electronic visa, also known as an eVisa, to gain permission to enter Thailand’s borders.

Thanks to this new electronic visa system, it has never been easier, or quicker, to apply for an eVisa to the Kingdom of Thailand from India.

To successfully apply for a Thailand eVisa you must follow the Thailand eVisa requirements for Indian citizens.

Application Steps to Obtain a Thailand eVisa as an Indian National

As an Indian citizen, you must complete the application form for a Thailand eVisa and submit it for approval prior to traveling to Thailand.

The application process for a Thailand eVisa is straightforward. The application form is entirely online, meaning you can fill in your information in a few minutes and submit it for approval without having to contact an embassy or consulate.

Most of the fields that Indians must complete are related to basic personal information and travel data such as the following:

  • Full name
  • Home address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Nationality
  • Passport number, expiration date, and issuance date
  • Travel purposes
  • Expected date of entry and exit

Additionally, you will be required to provide information about your trip to Thailand, including evidence of your accommodation.

There will also be questions related to the Indian passengers’ health and security, with are routinary and common in any visa application form.

Requirements for a Thailand eVisa for Indian Citizens

Indian passport holders planning to visit Thailand are advised to read the visa conditions for Indian citizens before filling in the application form.

The following personal documents and information are required when applying for Thailand eVisa as an Indian passport holder:

  • A valid and up-to-date Indian passport. Ensure it is valid for a minimum of 30 days from your arrival date in Thailand.
  • A digital image of the passport cover and the passport’s biographical page.
  • A credit or debit card, to pay the Thailand eVisa processing fee.
  • An email address. This is required as the approved Thailand eVisa will be sent to this address as an attachment, which you must print out and bring with you to Thailand.
  • Airline tickets for your arrival and departure. This can be an image or copy.

If you make an error on the form, this information cannot be edited once the Thailand eVisa form is submitted. For that reason, it is advised you check all entries carefully to avoid delays processing your Thailand eVisa.

If you are an Indian national traveling to Thailand for longer than 15 days, you must contact a Thai consulate in Chennai, Kolkata, or Mumbai, or the embassy in New Delhi.

How Long Will it Take to Receive my Thailand eVisa as an Indian Citizen?

Your application form for your Thailand eVisa is usually processed within 3 business days, although most petitions are ready in 24 hours.

It can take longer during busy travel periods, so it is recommended you allow at least 5 business days for processing.

Once approved, the Thailand eVisa will be emailed to the address that Indian applicants registered on their application as an attachment.

Travelers from India are required to print out a copy of their Thailand eVisa to carry with them to present to border officials on arrival in Thailand.

How Does the Thailand eVisa for Indian Nationals Work?

Currently, nationals from around 20 countries, including India, can apply for a Thailand eVisa before traveling to Thailand.

The single-entry Thailand eVisa grants the holder authorization to enter Thailand for a maximum of 15 consecutive days. Once the eVisa is approved, Indians have a month (30 days) to enter Thailand before the eVisa expires.

Also, the Thai eVisa for Indian citizens:

  • Cannot be extended
  • Can be used for business trips, holidays, medical and wellness treatments, education purposes, transit, sports, and/or attendance to conventions and employment endeavors.

Indian children traveling to Thailand require individual eVisas, regardless of whether they are on a parent or guardian’s passport or they have their own passport.

For more information, you can check the visa policy for Thailand, which sets out the regulations regarding visas for Indian nationals traveling to Thailand.

Travel to Thailand from India

The Thailand eVisa permits entry to Thailand via air only (sea or land entries with the online visa are not allowed).

The eVisa to Thailand can be used by Indian citizens at the following international airports only: Bangkok Don Mueang (DMK), Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK), Phuket International (HKT), Chiang Mai International (CNX).

Note: Passengers of India must remember the same passport they used during the application process is the one that should be presented upon arrival at the airport. This is because both the eVisa and the Indian passport are digitally connected.
