Saudi Arabia recently opened up its country to tourists and introduced an electronic visa system to make it easier for Canadian tourists to enter the country. To successfully obtain this, they must meet the Saudi Arabia eVisa requirements for Canadians.

This means that Canadian nationals can now enjoy the myriad sights and cities Saudi Arabia has to offer, such as the historic city of Jeddah or the picturesque Asir Mountains, as Canada is one of over 50 countries whose citizens can apply for a Saudi Arabian eVisa.

Once approved, the tourist eVisa allows Canada passport holders to stay in Saudi Arabia for a maximum total stay of 90 days.

Applying for the Saudi Arabia Visa as a Canadian

The application steps for the Saudi Arabia eVisa are straightforward and take a matter of minutes to complete. It no longer requires a visit to an embassy or lengthy phone calls with officials.

Canadian applicants should have certain documents to hand before beginning the application process to save time when filling out the online form.

In line with the Saudi Arabia visa policy, the following documents and information are required when applying for a Saudi Arabia eVisa:

  • A passport-style photograph
  • A Canadian passport with at least six months’ validity
  • A credit or debit card with which to pay the Saudi Arabia eVisa fee
  • An email address

Applicants will also be required to input the following information:

  • Basic personal details
  • Information from their Canada passport (such as date of issue/expiry and passport number)
  • Details regarding travel dates and flight information
  • Health information

The applicant will also need to fill out some security questions and details about previous travel.

Once the Canadian applicant has filled in the information, it is recommended they double-check that everything is correct, so as not to cause any hold-ups with the application. Then, simply submit the form and the Saudi Arabia eVisa will be processed.

How Long Will It Take to Receive a Saudi Arabia Visa?

Once applicants have submitted their application, the Saudi Arabia eVisa is usually processed within a few days. Applicants should be aware that they may need to allow extra time during busy periods.

The electronic visa will be sent to the email address listed on the application and linked to the applicant’s passport. Once received, it is recommended that the applicant prints out a copy to take with them on their trip to Saudi Arabia. This is in case border officials wish to see a physical copy in the unlikely event of problems with the electronic system.

The tourist visa then permits the holder entry to Saudi Arabia via any seaport, certain land ports, and airports for 1 year from the date of issue. The airports include:

  • King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh
  • King Abdulaziz International, Jeddah
  • King Fahd International Airport, Dammam
  • Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz International, Medina

Other Saudi Arabia Visa Options for Canadians

Canadian citizens should also be aware that the electronic visa is a tourist visa. If applicants are wishing to travel to the country for business reasons or to live or study there, they will need to arrange to visit a Saudi Arabia embassy or consulate.

Saudi Arabia also offers a special Hajj visa. These are specifically for travelers performing the Islamic pilgrimage of Hajj to Mecca, and are available from mid-Shawwal to 25th Dhual-Qa’dah.

Can Canadians Citizens Use the Saudi eVisa for Umrah?

Absolutely, the Saudi eVisa enables Canadian Muslims to undertake the Umrah in Saudi Arabia.

For Canadian nationals, the eVisa serves dual purposes: it permits general tourism within the country and it also acts as an Umrah visa for Canadian Muslims.

There’s no requirement for passengers to obtain a distinct Umrah visa from Canada, unlike the process for Hajj.

However, it’s important to remember that the eVisa is not valid for pilgrimage purposes during the Hajj season.

Insurance for Canadian Nationals Traveling to Saudi Arabia on an Electronic Visa

All Canadian citizens who receive a Saudi Arabia eVisa will automatically receive a mandatory insurance policy alongside it, linked to the eVisa.

It is a compulsory requirement for all Canadian citizens traveling to Saudi Arabia to have medical insurance.

The eVisa comes with an insurance policy included, avoiding the hassle of finding and organizing insurance separately.

An insurance provider will be randomly assigned to the eVisa at the point of processing. eVisa holders who need to use their medical insurance while in the country will be required to show their policy number as well as contacting their insurance company directly for further information.
