The India Tourist e-Visa, introduced by the Indian Government in November 2014, is an online visa, that facilitates the visa application process to India, avoiding the need to visit an embassy or consulate.

The India Tourist e-Visa is a multiple entry visa and is valid for 365 days from the date of issue.

Eligible citizens can travel to India for tourism purposes up to 90 consecutive days per visit (180 days for citizens of Canada, Japan, the UK, and the US).

A double-entry India tourist eVisa that allows a 30-day stay across 2 entries to India is also available for those planning a shorter stay.

Eligible citizens can apply by completing the simple and straightforward India online visa application form.

For purposes other than tourism, business or medical visits, foreign citizens are required to contact an Indian Embassy or Consulate.

Business Visa

India e-Business Visa Information

The India Business e-Visa is available to eligible citizens traveling to the country for business-related activities such as attending a conference, workshop or symposium, for training and courses, contract negotiations, and meetings.

The e-Business Visa for India allows eligible citizens to spend up to 180 days in the country. It is a multiple entry travel authorization, and is valid for 365 days from the date of issue.

Like the tourist e-Visa, eligible citizens can apply by submitting a simple India Business visa online form, which takes just minutes to complete.

The India business e-Visa requirements are the same as those of the tourist e-Visa, but applicants also need to supply a Business Card providing details of the host company in India or the company, with which they intend to associate their business activities in India. Applicants may also provide a  letter of invitation, if applicable, from Indian parties which wish to conduct business with them, but this is not a requirement.

The India business visa guide also indicates that a printed copy of the Approved   e-Business Visa must be presented to the border officials upon arrival in India.

Medical Visa

India e-Medical Visa Information

The India Medical e-Visa, is an online visa that facilitates the visa application process for those seeking medical help in India.

Eligible citizens can complete the simple India medical visa online form to receive an approved e-Visa, which permits a maximum stay of 60 consecutive days for medical purposes.

For e-Medical Visa, the validity would be 60 days from the date of the first arrival in India, and triple entry will be allowed within the e-Visa validity period stamped on your Passport.

For e-Medical Attendant Visa, the validity would be 60 days from the date of the first arrival in India and triple entry will be allowed within the e-Visa validity period stamped on your Passport.

The Indian e-Medical Visa is a triple-entry visa valid for 120 days from the date of issue. The second and third entries to India should be within 60 days of the first.

The online e-Medical Visa for India is available for patients receiving medical treatment for a significant health condition in an Indian hospital or recognized medical institution (e-Medical Visa), or for up to 2 companions traveling with the patient to India (e-Medical Attendant Visa).

The medical visa for India is available for children as a e-Medical Visa only.

The India e-Medical Visa requirements are the same as the tourist e-Visa. However, applicants must also provide a certified letter from the relevant Indian hospital or medical center. It should be on the letterhead of the hospital and must include the date/tentative date of admission into the hospital.

It is necessary to print at least 1 copy of the India online medical visa to present at the port of entry in India.

    Visitors arriving by cruise may only enter India with an e-Visa through the Cochin, Chennai Goa, Mumbai and Mangalore seaports. Travelers arriving by cruise to another seaport, must have a regular visa stamped inside their passport.

    Travelers who wish to enter India by land or different sea or airports must have previously applied for and received a traditional consulate visa for India.

    Travelers with the India online visa for tourism, business, or medical purposes are able to exit India through any authorized Immigration Check Post (ICP).

  • Is the e-Business Visa the same as an investor visa?

    No. The India e-Business Visa allows eligible citizens short stays to conduct business activities in India, including establishing a business venture in India, purchasing or selling industrial or commercial products, and recruitment purposes.

    The investor visa for India is issued for an initial period of 10 years and grants the holder permanent residency status in India. To qualify for the investor visa, foreign citizens must be able to make an initial investment of at least 100 million rupees (US$1.5 million) in an Indian enterprise.

  • What business activities are allowed under the e-Business Visa?

    The India e-Business Visa allows the holder short-term stays for business activities, including the following:

    • To establish a business venture, or to explore options to set up a business venture in India

    The restrictions of the India Online Business Visa indicates that holders of this visa are not allowed to obtain employment and work in India.

  • How far in advance can I apply for e-Medical Visa?

    You may apply online a minimum of 4 days in advance of the date of arrival with a window of 120 days. For example: If you are applying on September 1st then you can select arrival date from September 5th to January 2nd.

  • What is a Business Card?

    A business card is a card provided to you by the company you are working for. Another option for this requirement is uploading an invitation letter from the company in India including the company’s information, address, and phone number in India.

  • What are the restrictions of the India e-Medical Visa?

    The India medical online visa allows the holder to visit India for medical treatment, or to accompany a patient seeking medical treatment in India. A maximum of 2 companion applications is allowed for each patient. A Medical Attendant e-Visa is not available for minors.

    Applicants may apply for a e-Medical Visa for India up to 2 times in a calendar year. The 3 entries allowed with each India medical visa must also all be within the same calendar year. The second, or second and third entry, must be within 60 days of the first entry to the country.

    Holders of an India e-Medical Visa are not allowed to work in India, or stay in India for a period exceeding 60 days each visit.

    You may be allowed entry into India with the new passport even if e-Visa has been issued for the old passport with the condition that you must carry the new passport together with your old passport.

  • Do I need an invitation letter before applying for the e-Medical Visa?

    Yes, an India medical visa invitation letter from the participating hospital or medical center is required for the e-Visa to be approved.  

  • Do I need a letter of invitation to obtain India business e-Visa?

    Applicants are not required to provide an Indian business visa letter or a invitacion indian business visa cover letter to obtain an India Business e-visa. However, they may do so if it is available. However, applicants are required to submit a Business Card with the details of the host company in India.

  • What Is the Air Suvidha Self Declaration Form? Is Mandatory to Travel to India?

    The India health declaration form was a travel health certificate that had to be completed by all passengers wishing to enter the country for any reason.

    Along with other safety measures, the form became an official entry requirement that all visitors to India had to be in possession of.

    It was mandatory until November 22, 2023; since then, it is no longer required to enter India.
