Hong Kong Visa Online Application

Country Information

Citizens from around 140 countries are able to travel to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) visa-free for tourism or business. The period of visa-exempt stay allowed varies between 7 to 180 days, depending on the traveler’s nationality. The HK visa policy states that all other nationalities need a visa for Hong Kong from a government diplomatic office or obtain online travel authorization to enter the region.

Hong Kong PAR for Indian Citizens

Hong Kong PAR from Taiwan

Hong Kong immigration policy states that citizens of India are required to obtain an approved Pre Arrival Registration (PAR) to enter the territory for short stays. This multiple entry electronic eVisa waiver is available through a simple online form and has validity of 6 months from approval. Residents of Taiwan also can complete a Hong Kong PAR application online.

Hong Kong PAR for Indian Citizens

Introduced by HKSAR in 2017, the Hong Kong PAR for citizens of India is an Electronic Travel Authorization that permits Indian passport holders to travel to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The Pre-Arrival Registration for Hong Kong from India can be obtained through a simple online form, replacing the former visa on arrival for Indian nationals. The PAR program saves travelers from having to wait in line at the border.

An approved PAR visitor eVisa waiver for Indians is a multiple entry Pre Registration authorization which allows the holder multiple stays in Hong Kong of up to 14 days with each entry. The Hong Kong PAR for Indian citizens is valid for 6 months from the date of approval.

The Hong Kong Pre Arrival application from India can be completed in a few minutes online, by supplying personal and passport information. Applicants must have a Indian passport valid for at least 6 months and answer some security questions before they can complete the form and receive an approved Pre-Arrival authorization for Hong Kong.

Once a PAR for Indian citizens is approved, the traveler is able to present a printed copy of the approved HK PAR notification slip upon arrival at any point of entry in Hong Kong, as well as the same Indian passport they used when completing the PAR application.

It is also necessary to present an Arrival/Departure Card for immigration clearance upon arrival and departure from the HKSAR. Transport operators will also check if the holder has a valid Hong Kong PAR enrollment before they are permitted to board any form of transportation to the SAR.

Holders of a HK PAR for Indian nationals are able to stay in Hong Kong beyond the expiry date of the travel authorization, as long as the holder enters HKSAR the day before the PAR expires for a maximum stay of 14 days.

HK PAR allows the holder to travel to Hong Kong to visit family and friends, for tourism, business, or transit. To work or study, it is necessary to apply for one of the different types of visa for Hong Kong at an embassy or consulate.

Hong Kong PAR from Taiwan

People’s Republic of China nationals with “right of abode” (ROA) in Taiwan may enter Hong Kong for up to 30 days if they present a Mainland Travel Permit. Those who have “right of abode” are persons eligible to obtain a Taiwanese National ID Card.

Chinese citizens with ROA in Taiwan without a Mainland Travel Permit are required to obtain a Hong Kong PAR through a simple online application. The electronic form only takes a few minutes to complete with basic information.

An approved HK PAR for Taiwanese citizens is a double-entry electronic travel authorization that permits the holder to stay in Hong Kong for up to 30 days with each entry. The HK PAR is valid for 2 months.

Once a resident of Taiwan has completed an online PAR registration and received approval via email, it is necessary to print the attached approved HK PAR Notification Slip for Pre-arrival Registration.

The copy of the approved PAR authorization should be presented when boarding a flight to Hong Kong, as well as to an immigration officer at the border upon arrival, alongside the visitor’s Taiwanese passport.

In order to apply online for a PAR from Taiwan, it is necessary for individuals to:

  • have been born in Taiwan or have been born in Taiwan but been admitted to Hong Kong as a Taiwanese resident in the past
  • Not be in possession of any travel document issued by other countries or territories, with the exception of a Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents or Immigration Department of Hong Kong-issued Entry Permit. Travelers who do not meet this requirement may not use their Taiwanese passport to enter HKSAR and will need to enter Hong Kong on the strength of another passport.

ROC citizens without right of abode in Taiwan are required to obtain a passport-like Chinese Travel Document and a HKSAR Entry Permit, issued by Chinese overseas diplomatic missions, to travel to Hong Kong.

Chinese nationals, regardless of whether they have right of abode in Taiwan or not, who are in transit to a third country through Hong Kong do not need to obtain a PAR transit visa waiver provided they do not leave the transit area of the airport.
