You can use the NZeTA for Nigerian citizens to visit New Zealand as many times as you like while it is valid (up to 2 years).

Nigerians may use the eTA to fly to NZ, if they are entering the country by cruise ship, or are transiting via Auckland International Airport to another destination.

Do Nigerians need a visa for New Zealand?

Nigerian travelers with an NZeTA do not need a visa to enter the country. This avoids the need to go through the long application process for a New Zealand visa for Nigerians at an embassy.

How Can I Apply for New Zealand eTA from Nigeria?

Getting a New Zealand eTA from Nigeria is a straightforward process that takes about 30 minutes to complete. All you need to do is apply online via the eTA application form.

To complete the eTA application, you will need to provide personal information about yourself, including your:

  • Full name
  • Residential address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality

Additionally, you will need to provide information from your Nigerian passport. In doing so, you must enter your:

  • Passport number
  • Document issue and expiry dates

Nigerians will also be asked about their reason for visiting New Zealand. You will also need to answer some additional questions about any criminal history you have on record.

When you are ready to submit the form, you will need to pay the application fee (this includes the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy costs required by the Government of New Zealand).

How Will I Receive my New Zealand eTA?

Once your New Zealand eTA for Nigerians has been processed and approved it will be sent to you via email. You will receive this notification via the email address registered during the application.

The approved eTA for Nigerians is electronically linked to your passport and will be checked when your ID is scanned on arrival in New Zealand. However, it is also recommended to carry a printed copy of the confirmation email as well as extra proof.

The New Zealand eTA is normally processed within 3 working days. Delays can sometimes be caused be errors or inconsistencies in the information provided by the applicant. It is important to check over everything you have entered carefully before submitting your final application.

Documents Required to Apply for the New Zealand eTA as a Nigerian Citizen

Nigerian citizens only need to provide a few documents and items to obtain a New Zealand eTA. In order to register applicants must have:

  • A valid Nigerian passport – Your passport must have at least 3 months’ validity remaining after the trip to New Zealand.
  • A valid form of payment – To submit the eTA form you must enter the details of a valid debit or credit card to pay the application fee and NZ International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy fee (included in the final cost).
  • A device with access to the internet – You can apply for the NZ eTA with any device with a working internet connection such as a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.
  • A valid and operational email address – This is essential, as the address you provide will be used to receive the approved New Zealand eTA.
  • A recent passport photograph of yourself – You must submit a recent photo of yourself so you can be correctly identified by New Zealand’s border officers on arrival.

Additionally, when arriving in New Zealand, Nigerian travelers may be asked to provide the following documentation:

  • Return or onward flight tickets – Immigration agents for New Zealand may ask to see evidence of your onward travel plans to ensure you plan to leave the country within the time allowed by your visa or visa waiver.
  • Evidence of financial means – The immigration authorities in New Zealand require travelers to show they possess at least $1,000 for every month spent in the country. This drops to $400 if you have prepaid for your accommodation.

How long can a Nigerian citizen stay in New Zealand with an eTA?

Visitors to New Zealand with Nigerian passports may enter the country for up to 3 months if they arrive by cruise ship and have a valid eTA. The visa waiver itself is valid for up to 2 years and can be used multiple times or until your passport expires (whichever is soonest).
