The Government of Laos introduced an online visa application to facilitate the process to obtain a valid travel document for foreign tourists. Indians are amongst the top visitors every year in Laos and are eligible to receive the eVisa.

The electronic visa for Laos is available via an online form. Indian passport holders can submit their requests without needing to pay a visit to an embassy or consular office.

The whole process takes between 20 and 30 minutes and can be completed using any electronic device (PC, laptop, or mobile phone).

Laos eVisa Requirements for Indian Nationals

We recommend reading through the visa requirements for Indian citizens before beginning the application form. There, applicants from India will find information about which countries they can visit with an online visa and how to obtain one.

Regarding the Laotian eVisa, citizens of India should check they meet the following conditions:

  • Have a passport issued by the Republic of India and valid for 180 days on their intended arrival date in Laos
  • Confirm their passport includes at least 2 empty pages for entry and exit stamps
  • Provide digital images of their passport’s information and cover pages
  • Supply a recent ID photo (4×6 cm) in digital format
  • Provide a bank card to pay the eVisa processing fee
  • Register their eVisa petition with an active email address
  • Share their travel itinerary (including arrival dates and accommodation details)

Indian citizens must ensure their passport meets the validity requisite. If it will expire within the next 6 months prior to their arrival, they should apply for a new one before they submit their Laos visa application form.

Likewise, we recommend applicants from India possess readable images of their documentation. They should also check if their debit or credit card is activated for internet payments.

Application Form for the Laos eVisa for Indian Citizens

Travelers from India can submit their eVisa requests by accessing an online questionnaire. They will be required to provide the following personal information:

  • Name
  • Surname
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Arrival date
  • Accommodation booking

Indian nationals will then proceed to share some specific passport details such as the following:

  • Passport issuing country
  • Number
  • The expiry date of the passport

Tourists from India visiting Laos with children should remember that all arrivals, regardless of their age, need an eVisa approval before they enter the country. They can fill in their dependents’ forms by using the same payment method and contact details.

Evaluation of the Laos eVisa requests from Indian citizens

Once Laotian authorities receive the application form from Indians, they usually issued a resolution 1 business day. If the form has been correctly filled in, citizens of India will obtain an approved eVisa issued to their passports.

Simultaneously, travelers from India will receive a confirmation email, which we request they print since border officials will require it for inspection upon arrival.

Laos eVisa for Indian Travelers: Main Features

The visa policy for Laos details the visa options available to Indian passport holders and the requirements they must meet. The eVisa is ideal for applicants from India visiting Laos for the following reasons:

  • Their visit will be for tourism only
  • They only require a single entry into the country
  • Their stay in the country will not exceed a month

The eVisa, once issued, is valid for 2 months for their entry. Indian tourists have 60 days to reach Laos once they receive their approved eVisa. Failure to do so will mean the eVisa will no longer be valid, and they will require a new electronic visa before their holiday.

Indian passport holders should take into account the Laos electronic visa does not permit them to partake in any form of employment (paid or unpaid). If they are traveling to Laos for a long-term relocation or job-seeking opportunities, they should schedule an appointment at the Laotian embassy in New Delhi for further details

Traveling to Laos with the eVisa from India

Once Indian citizens obtain the approved eVisa, they have 2 months (60 days) to enter Laos.

There are 3 international airports in Laos that Indians can use to access the country with an eVisa:

  • Luang Prabang International Airport
  • Pakse International Airport
  • Wattay International Airport

Indian travelers entering Laos by car or bus should note the eVisa can be used at specific points at the Boten International Checkpoint and Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge.

Once they reach any of these border crossings, they can head straight to the waiting lines for Indian arrivals holding an eVisa. This saves them time at passport controls, where they will have to submit the following for inspection:

  • Passport
  • Printout of their eVisa letter
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement will suffice)

Visitors from India should confirm their departure complies with the authorized 30 days on their Laos online visa.

If they encounter any unexpected situation and need to prolong their stay, they can pay a visit to the Immigration Office in Vientiane or official travel agencies and apply for an eVisa extension.
