Electronic Visa System for Japan

The electronic visa system for Japan (Japan eVISA) is an electronic visa which will allows eligible nationalities to travel to Japan by air for short stays for tourism.

The Japanese government has implemented the Japan online visa in order to make it easier for eligible citizens to visit the country. It also strengthens immigration controls, and reduces visa application workloads at Japanese diplomatic missions.

The Japan tourist visa online is a single entry visa and allows holders a maximum tourist stay of 90 days. It is valid to enter Japan for 3 months from the day after approval.

The Japan visa online is currently available to Chinese citizens, as well as visa-required passport holders and residents of over 10 other countries.

Japan eVISA Requirements

To meet the Japan eVISA requirements, applicants are expected to have:

  • Passport from an eligible country valid for at least 3 months from intended arrival date
  • Photo of the applicant, passport-style and taken within the last 6 months
  •  Email address to receive notifications and th eVISA approval notice

Depending on your nationality, you may need to meet additional Japan visa requirements for supporting documents. This will be indicated when you are completing the online application. 

Applicants living in the UK or Singapore can pay the eVISA online using a credit or debit card. However, if you reside in another county, you need to pay the fee at your nearest Japanese embassy or consulate.

The Japan online visa requirements also state that it is mandatory to display the approved eVISA notice on a mobile device at your departure airport to board your plane.

A print-out or screenshot of the eVISA approval notice is not accepted. If you are unable to show the original notice on a device, you need to apply for a visa at the nearest Japanese diplomatic office.
