As Slovenia is part of the EU and has signed the Schengen agreement, it shares a visa policy with all of the Schengen countries. At the moment, there are currently a number of foreign citizens able to visit Slovenia and the Schengen zone visa-free for up to 90 days.
However, from 2024, it is expected that these same foreign citizens will be required to obtain an ETIAS Europe visa waiver in order to travel to Slovenia and the Schengen Area for short stays.
The European visa waiver for Slovenia, ETIAS, is a multiple entry travel authorization (not a visa) that permits the holder multiple entries to the Schengen zone during its validity. Holders of an ETIAS Slovenia can spend up to 90 consecutive days with each entry to the Schengen Area, within every 180-day period. It is valid for a total of 3 years from the date of approval.
The Slovenia Europe visa waiver ETIAS permits the holder to travel to Schengen countries for purposes of business, tourism, transit, and medical treatment.
Those who wish to travel to Slovenia for other purposes such as to work or study, as well as foreign citizens not eligible to apply for an ETIAS Slovenia visa waiver, need a visa to visit Slovenia.
An embassy visa for Slovenia is the same as a Schengen visa. In order to apply for a Schengen visa for Slovenia, it is first necessary to make an appointment at the nearest Slovenian diplomatic office.
It is then necessary for applicants to download a copy of the Slovenia Schengen visa application and then print and complete the application form to take along to the visa appointment.
It is also necessary to meet the Schengen visa requirements for supporting documents before attending the appointment. All applicants are required to have a valid passport containing at least 2 blank pages. Other supporting documentation depends on the type of Slovenia Schengen visa the applicant requires and the purpose of the intended stay.
A Schengen visa for Slovenia may be granted as a single, double, or multiple-entry visa depending on the issuing consulate. It normally permits a total consecutive stay of 90 days with each entry, but longer periods of stay may be granted depending on the individual case.
