As Estonia has signed the Schengen Agreement and shares the Schengen visa policy, all citizens of Schengen Countries are granted free movement over its borders and do not require a travel authorization or visa to travel to Estonia.
There are currently a number of other nationalities who are able to travel to Estonia and the Schengen Area for up to 90 days without a visa. However, from 2024, these same visa-exempt citizens will be required to complete an ETIAS Application before traveling to Estonia and the Schengen zone for short stays.
The ETIAS Europe visa waiver for Estonia is a multiple-entry electronic travel authorization available through a simple online application. It is not a visa and is far easier to obtain.
It allows a total stay of 90 consecutive days with each entry to Estonia and the Schengen Area, within every 180-day period.
An approved ETIAS Estonia visa waiver is valid for a total of 3 years and permits multiple entries to Schengen countries during its validity, meaning that there is no need to complete an ETIAS application before every trip to Estonia.
However, ETIAS Europe visa waiver requirements state that it is necessary to submit a new application if the traveler’s passport expires during the validity of the approved ETIAS Estonia. This is because an approved ETIAS for Estonia is electronically linked to an individual passport.
Those not eligible to apply for ETIAS need a visa to travel to Estonia. As Estonia is one of the Schengen visa countries, it is necessary to apply for a Schengen visa from the nearest Estonian diplomatic office.
Applicants are required to make a visa appointment at the Estonian consulate and then download, print, and complete the Schengen visa application for Estonia to bring to the visa interview. It is also necessary to bring a range of supporting documentation which varies depending on the purpose of the intended stay in Estonia.
